§ 73.575 Titanium dioxide.
（a） Identity. （1） The color additive titanium dioxide is synthetically prepared TiO2, free from admixture with other substances.
?。?） Color additive mixtures for food use made with titanium dioxide may contain only those diluents that are suitable and that are listed in this subpart as safe in color additive mixtures for coloring foods, and the following: Silicon dioxide, SiO2and/or aluminum oxide, Al2O3, as dispersing aids—not more than 2 percent total.
?。╞） Specifications. Titanium dioxide shall conform to the following specifications:
Lead （as Pb）, not more than 10 parts per million.
Arsenic （as As）, not more than 1 part per million.
Antimony （as Sb）, not more than 2 parts per million.
Mercury （as Hg）, not more than 1 part per million.
Loss on ignition at 800 °C. （after drying for 3 hours at 105 °C.）, not more than 0.5 percent.
Water soluble substances, not more than 0.3 percent.
Acid soluble substances, not more than 0.5 percent.
TiO2, not less than 99.0 percent after drying for 3 hours at 105 °C.
Lead, arsenic, and antimony shall be determined in the solution obtained by boiling 10 grams of the titanium dioxide for 15 minutes in 50 milliliters of 0.5 N hydrochloric acid.
（c） Uses and restrictions. The color additive titanium dioxide may be safely used for coloring foods generally, subject to the following restrictions:
?。?） The quantity of titanium dioxide does not exceed 1 percent by weight of the food.
?。?） It may not be used to color foods for which standards of identity have been promulgated under section 401 of the act unless added color is authorized by such standards.
?。╠） Labeling. The label of the color additive and any mixtures intended solely or in part for coloring purposes prepared therefrom shall conform to the requirements of §70.25 of this chapter.
（e） Exemption from certification. Certification of this color additive is not necessary for the protection of the public health and therefore batches thereof are exempt from the certification requirements of section 721（c） of the act.
§73.575 二氧化鈦
?。╝）特性：
（1）著色劑二氧化鈦系合成所得的TiO2，不得摻有其它物質(zhì)。
（2）用二氧化鈦配制成的食用著色劑混合料，只能選用合適的本分部所列的可安全地用于食品著色的著色劑混合物稀釋劑，以及下列作為分散劑的各物質(zhì)：二氧化硅（SiO2）和或氧化鋁（Al2O3），但它們的用量不得超過(guò)總量的2%。
?。╞）質(zhì)量規(guī)格：二氧化鈦需符合下列質(zhì)量指標(biāo)：
鉛（以Pb計(jì)），不超過(guò)10mg/kg。
砷（以As計(jì)），不超過(guò)1mg/kg。
銻（以Sb計(jì)），不超過(guò)2mg/kg。
汞（以Hg計(jì)），不超過(guò)1mg/kg。
灼燒失重（105℃干燥3h后，800℃灼燒），不超過(guò)0.5%。
水溶性物質(zhì)，不超過(guò)0.3%。
酸溶性物質(zhì)，不超過(guò)0.5%。
TiO2，105℃干燥3h后，不低于99.0%。
鉛、砷和銻的測(cè)定：取二氧化鈦10g，加0.5mol/L鹽酸50mL，煮沸15min后將所得的溶液進(jìn)行測(cè)定。
（c）使用和限制條件：著色劑二氧化鈦可安全地用于一般食品的著色，但應(yīng)符合下列限制條件：
（1）二氧化鈦的用量不得超過(guò)食品量的1%。
?。?）不得用于本法規(guī)§401中所頒布的已確定標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的食品的著色，除非所加入的色素是這類標(biāo)準(zhǔn)所允許的。
?。╠）標(biāo)簽標(biāo)注方式：本著色劑和任何含有本著色劑的混合物，擬單獨(dú)使用或起部分著色效果時(shí)，除法規(guī)所規(guī)定的其它所需說(shuō)明以外，其標(biāo)簽尚應(yīng)符合本章§70.25中的規(guī)定。
（e）免除產(chǎn)品證書(shū)：本著色劑免除產(chǎn)品證書(shū)以保護(hù)公眾健康，所生產(chǎn)的每批產(chǎn)品也免除按法規(guī)§721（c）中規(guī)定的需要產(chǎn)品證書(shū)。
